James
James Forcier
James Severe ‘Jim’ Forcier of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in Battle Creek. Mr. Forcier was born December 8, 1931 in St. Paul, MN to Benjamin and Blanche (Jones) Forcier.
He graduated from Wilson High School, St. Paul, and earned his Bachelor Degree from the University of Minnesota. During the Korean War he served his country for two years in the U.S. Navy and then three years in the Marines, and was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was employed with Minnesota Milk for several years. In 1965 he moved to Waconia, MN and worked for Oak Grove Dairy through 1969. In 1970 he moved to Otsego where he was employed in sales for M.D.E. Corp., retiring in 1996.
Jim loved to golf, bowl, take trips in his motor home and spend the winters in Clearwater, FL. He was a world traveler and a member of the Otsego Elks Lodge #1711, V.F.W. Post #3030, Michigan Dairy Association, D.A.V., and American Legion.
On May 24, 1952 in St. Paul he married the former Carol Sorlie, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jim Forcier of Minneapolis, Kathy (Kurt) Hatfield of Allegan, Tom (Jackie) Forcier and Jeff Forcier, both of Otsego and Mike Forcier; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Forcier of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Virginia Scatterelli of Minneapolis and Marcie Bungurt of Bloomington, MN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ben and Dick Forcier.
Friends may visit with Jim’s family from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the
Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego
. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 18, 2013, at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Otsego, Rev. Fr. Brian Stanley celebrant. Burial with Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #3030 and the Fort Custer Honor Guard will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2013.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the
Alzheimer’s Association

Elks Major Project
or the
Veterans Hospital of Battle Creek
.

We shall always remember Jim for his kind smile and laughter. He was a very caring man. He was so good to our family when our daughter was married. Jim and Carol were dear friends to my parents Charles and Nadene Shaffer. They spent the winters in Cearwater Florida. When my dad got very sick he came to visit him all the time. He was a good friend to both my parents. They would have dinner at the Elks every Friday night. RIP Jim. You will be missed. Carol hugs and prayers for you and your family!

Although my son, Christian, and I had not known James long, he was a great inspiration to both of us. Christian always admired and enjoyed visiting James. James inspired Christian to continue to work towards becoming a Marine when he comes of age. Despite James’s illness he always remembered Christian and I at every visit, which I found extremely incredible. We will always remember the best about him and pray that his spirit will continue to inspire us to be better every day.

We have missed seeing Jim around the neighborhood since his hospital stay and now are saddened to hear of his passing. Our condolences to the entire Forcier family and especially to his wife, Carol.
Jim was a great guy and always cheerful when we chanced to talked with him, whether it was in his front yard, the golf course or numerous restaurants he frequented.
We hope to see the Marine Corps flag still flying in his and Carol’s back yard for many years to come. Semper Fi Jim.

I was surprised to see of Jim’s passing. We still go to Florida for the winter months. I remember visiting your park one time when you had your motor home. Please accept our sympathy

I pray God’s love will comfort you Mrs. Forcier, Kathy, and all the boys, grandchildren, & great grandchildren. Kathy your Dad was a wonderful man. We had alot of good times at your home back in middle school. I remember the summer he took us to Cedar point when Jim was working there one of his first years in college. You were blessed to have him for such a long life. My dad has been gone since 1997. We always had to cheer for the Minnasota Vickings during football season too!

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Jim. We always enjoyed being around Jim and talking to him. He was always upbeat with a big smile followed by a hardy laugh. He will be remembered as a leader and a doer. Jim will be missed. We are out of town but are thoughts will be with you.

I’m so sorry for your loss…. Jim was a wonderful man; I will always remember him for his outgoing, fun loving attitude. He was in favor of a good time and he didn’t let the moment pass him by.
I never knew but I’m not surprised by the awards that were bestowed on him for his military service. That explains why he was the so well loved…… I know you will miss him; however he will not be forgotten.
