Irene N. Smith

Irene passed away, Monday, April 29, 2024, at her home in Plainwell. 

She was born June 8, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Delvie and Pearl (Collar) Irving. Irene was a lifelong resident of the area and for many years worked at McPherson Plastics until her retirement. Irene was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Otsego VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed knitting and donated several lap rolls to area nursing homes. She also liked hunting and fishing. Irene volunteered at the First Congregational Church in Otsego and at the Plainwell United Methodist Church. On July 22, 1963, she married Arlon Smith who passed away in 1993. 

Surviving are her siblings, Sue (Doug) Menck, Robert (Dorothy) Irving, Darlene Johnson, Ellie Robinson, Art (Karen) Irving, Ann (Ron) Wemus, Tom (Vicki) Irving, Dennis Wayne (Lynn) Irving, Edie Stenberg, Eddie Irving, Teresa Smith and Lee (Theresa) Irving along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Rodney (Hanna), Gary, Jim and Bill Irving and brother-in-law, John Robinson. 

Friends may visit with Irene’s family from 5-7 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 3, 2024, with Douglas Menck officiating. 

Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
