Herbert Franz Orth passed away at his home in Plainwell, MI, on July 4, 2024.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hicks-Orth of Plainwell, Michigan, son Mark David Orth of Washington State, daughter, Tracey Anne Orth-Burrows of New Jersey and two grandchildren. He was a member of the Blairstown New Jersey Masonic Lodge #165, the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. and the American Legion Post #154 in Marathon Florida.
He retired from the New Jersey State Police in 1987 with the rank of Detective Lieutenant, and was employed by Carnival Cruise Lines in Miami, Florida as Director of Security and Surveillance until his retirement in 2005. He proudly served in the United States Navy as an electronic technician from 1956 to 1960 and was qualified for duty aboard submarines in 1958 during the Cold War, serving aboard the USS Blenny SS-324. He was an avid fisherman and held a commercial pilot rating. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey and was a graduate of Montclair State University College of Education. Herbert is also survived by his brother, John Orth of Austin, Texas.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
