Helen Johnson

Helen Johnson of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Otsego, Michigan passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at her son’s home with her Hospice nurses and family by her side. Helen was born September 17, 1919 in Auburn, IN to Ervin and Frances (Cool) Pion. She had worked for A&P Grocery in Otsego and McPherson’s Plastics, retiring in 1987. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1937, in LaGrange, IN, she married Robert Johnson, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1994.

Helen is survived by her son, Robert (Elizabeth) Johnson of Hendersonville, NC; 3 grandchildren: Michael Johnson of Washington, DC, Debra (Chris) Clancy of Ludington, MI and Sarah French of Paw Paw, MI; 3 great-grandchildren: Tori and Erin Clancy and Molly French; 4 sisters: Margaret Powers, Sharon Shattuck, Cheryl (Jerry) Burd and Sally Judd; a very special sister-in-law: Mary Pion, many nieces and nephews and very attentive neighbors, Steve, Terri and Chuck.

She was preceded in death by her husband and by her siblings: Wesley Pion, James Pion, Alice Taylor, Howard Pion, Kay Ramp and Charles “Butch” Pion.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service and Burial of Ashes will be held at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego, on April 28, 2012 at 11 A.M.

Helen will always be remembered by the memory of barking dogs in the neighborhood and her walking down to what ever house had the offending dog at the moment…in her bathrobe. Her and Bob were my next door neighbors on Orleans St and then later I married her Nephew Gary Burd. When we moved she was surely missed. My dad also used to take them blue gills sometimes after we moved. Seems like yesterday but it was many years ago. Amy
