Hazel L. Holmes

Hazel L. Holmes of Otsego passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Plainwell. Mrs. Holmes was born May 19, 1919 in Marcellus to Arthur and Edith (Timm) Parker and had lived in Otsego since 1939. For 30 years she was employed with the Otsego Public Schools in the hot lunch program, retiring as Supervisor. Hazel was a member of the Otsego United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Susanna Circle and the Widows Club. On July 29, 1939 in Marcellus she married Bernard ‘Speed’ Holmes. Hazel and Bernard enjoyed traveling together and spending time at their trailer at Eagle Lake and wintering in Florida. She enjoyed baking, especially at the holiday season, for her family and friends. She loved her family and the time they spent together. Bernard preceded her in death in 1995 after 55 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were a brother Olin Parker, a sister and brother in infancy. Surviving are a son and 2 daughters, Donald Bernard Holmes of Otsego, Carol (Ronald) Lovelace of Gun lake, Joyce (Daniel) McClellan of Plainwell; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Holmes of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 3 nieces and their families.

Friends may meet the family from 11:00 A.M. until noon Monday at the

Winkel Funeral Home,

Otsego,

where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Hazel may be made to the United Methodist Church of Otsego.
