Born on November 15, 1933, in Martin, she was the daughter of Sierd and Grace (Van Dyke) Hoekstra. Gertrude’s career spanned nearly half a century at Mead Paper, where she worked diligently until her retirement in 1997 at the age of 64. Throughout her life, she exemplified hard work and commitment, traits that her family and friends will remember fondly.

An avid golfer and bowler, Gertrude also enjoyed visits to the casino. She was a proud member of the American Legion in Schoolcraft, the Old Mill Golf Course, and Lakeland Reformed Church, where she nurtured her deep faith and love for the Lord. Surviving are her 5 nephews, Randy (Dawn) Hoekstra, Todd (Sheila) Hoekstra, Albert Jr. (Patsy) Hoekstra, Rodney (Susan) Zeinstra, and Larry (Deb) Talsma along with many great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry her spirit forward.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, brothers Sierd and Albert Hoekstra, and sisters Josie Talsma and Flora Zeinstra. Gertrude A. Hoekstra will be dearly missed, remembered for her vibrant spirit, deep faith, and enduring love for her family.
