George ‘Skip’ Marks of Vicksburg (formerly of Otsego) passed away

, at his home. Skip was born in

Detroit

Michigan

, on

November 10, 1934

to George and Yolanda (Montagne) Marks. George attended

Plainwell

High School

and in Otsego he met the first love of his life. In 1954 he and Rosalie (Jones) were united in marriage. They had four children, George P. Marks

III

of Kendall, Roger Marks, Ronnie Marks and Cindy (Kenny) McDonald all of Otsego. Skip lost Rose in 1986 to cancer. Skip met his second love and on

April 9, 1988

was united in marriage to Diane (

Walker

). Skip inherited five more children, Angelina (Pat) Clark of Otsego, Tammie Walker of Plainwell, Wendy Bushard of Lansing, Michael (Tami) Walker and Paul Walker, both of

Vicksburg

. Skip worked for Root Van Lines,

Kalamazoo

Airport

and the City of

Kalamazoo

before retiring in 1997 from the City of

Otsego

, after 18 years service. Skip liked to bowl with his buddies Don Newton, Dick Newton, Bill McCormick and George Channels. He also had a good friend, Bud Junker. Skip enjoyed his country music, especially Merle Haggard, NASCAR, football and was a Tiger baseball fan. He was an ardent supporter of the U.S. Navy and the N.R.A. He experienced being both an Otsego Bulldog and Vicksburg Bulldog. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phil Marks, grandsons, Cory Stoughton and Mark Verploegh; several aunts and uncles. Skip is survived by his wife, Diane; 4 children and 5 step-children; an aunt, Sophia Davis of

Detroit

; many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Skip will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and

Friday at the

Winkel Funeral Home,

Otsego,

where funeral services will be held at

11:00 A.M.

Saturday, with funeral celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Skip will be buried in

Mountain

Cemetery

, Otsego beside his first wife, Rose, and his father, whom he will be with again in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, who were wonderful.
