George E. Maxwell

Cheboygan

George Elliott Maxwell, a dedicated truck driver and cherished husband, father, grandfather and neighbor peacefully departed this world on September 3, 2024, on the very road where he was born on August 22, 1940. He lived a life that embraced hard work, passion, and a love for the simple joys that life had to offer.

Throughout his career, George’s commitment to his profession was evident. He drove trucks for many years, loyally serving employers such as Cheboygan Co-op, Sidell Forest Products, and finally Robiadek & Sons Excavating until his well-deserved retirement in 2014. He took immense pride in his work, always ensuring that his truck was in impeccable condition, a reflection of his meticulous nature and strong work ethic. George never did things halfway; if it was worth doing, he believed it was worth doing well.

George's interests went beyond the cab of his truck. He had a life-long passion for mowing the lawn, taking great care to ensure every blade of grass was perfect and uniform. A true craftsman, he could fix just about anything that came his way, reveling in small engine repairs and spending countless hours tinkering in his garage. An avid NASCAR fan, George particularly admired Dale Earnhardt, and in his later years found joy in sitting on his porch, watching and feeding the many birds. George was a lifelong active member of St. John Lutheran Church.

He leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his memory with pride. George is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Lissa; his children, Trisha Maxwell, Stacy (Ken) Franks, Amy (Ben) Pobocik, Chris (Amy) Maxwell, Lori Miller, Greg (Nita) Maxwell, Shelly (Bruce) Brandt and Marc (Amy) Maxwell; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who were fortunate to experience his love and guidance; as well as his sister, Mary Charboneau and step-children, Todd and Kim. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, alongside his beloved neighbors on Maxwell Road, who became like family over the years.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Bernice (Smith) Maxwell, and his brother, Fred (Judy) Maxwell.

As we remember George, we celebrate a life that was not only well-lived but also deeply loved. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and pride in every endeavor will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
