George Pearl Channells, Jr. of Martin, Michigan, passed away on the evening of July 5, 2014 at the Wings of Hope Hospice House in Allegan. Born January 19, 1928, his parents were George P. Channells, Sr. and Maude (Delaney) Channells. George attended Martin Public Schools until serving his country as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his service, George worked for many years as a printer for Saniwax Paper Company, and for the City of Kalamazoo. George loved working with his hands, building two homes for his family, and many furniture pieces for his loved ones. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and had a deep love of animals. On February 25, 1949 he married Pauline Troff, celebrating 65 years of marriage this year.
George is survived by his wife, Pauline (Troff) Channells; one daughter, Brook and her husband, Thomas, Kievit; sons George Channells III and wife Catherine; Rodney Channells and wife Kathy; and Joseph Channells; grandchildren Curtis (Dawn) Channells, Timothy (Leann) Channells, Jeremy (Terri) Channells, George IV (Ashley) Channells, Erin (John) Clements, Kiley (Scott) Haynes, Dustin Channells, and Heather Channells, as well as 16 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, and by his son, Todd Channells, in 1972.
A gathering for friends and family to remember George will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 851 E. 112th Avenue in Martin from 2pm to 5pm.
