Gene E. Taylor

Gene E. Taylor age 91 passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Life Care Center in Plainwell.

He was born May 11, 1924 in Kalamazoo to Ralph and Beulah (Morris) Taylor. Gene proudly served his country in the US Army in the Pacific during WWII. He had worked at the recycling center in Cooper and for over 20 years had cleaned the carpool lot on D Avenue. Gene had also worked at Gibson Guitar and KVP Sutherland and most recently for the City of Kalamazoo with the Metro Transit System. He was a people person and loved talking with people whether he knew them or not. To stay busy he sold burning barrels and enjoyed playing dominoes, collecting wheat pennies, and listening to hymns. Gene was a member of Immanuel Fellowship Church in Kalamazoo. On December 9, 1949 in Kalamazoo he married Jean Pyle who survives. Gene was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Also surviving are his daughters, Carol (Jim) Dennis of Plainwell and Sandra (Phillip) Harpootlian of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Aaron (Rebekah) Dennis, Nathan Dennis, Ryan Dennis and Andrew Harpootlian; great-grandchildren, Alex, Hannah, Addison and Jasmine Dennis; and sisters, Eleanor Bunce and Lucille (Merle) Hamblin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph Jr., Robert and Louie.

Friends may visit with Gene’s family Tuesday, January 26, 2016 starting at 3:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 4:30 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.

A private family burial will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North in Kalamazoo at a later time.

Contributions in memory of Gene may be made to the Immanuel Fellowship Church of Kalamazoo or the charity of choice.

Jean, Carol and Sandy, we are so very sorry to hear of your loss. You were all such great neighbors when we lived next door to you on North 14th Street and we have so many fond memories of Gene. You and your families are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
