Geertje “Gertrude” Knooihuizen
Geertje “Gertrude” Knooihuizen of Oshtemo, Michigan, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Sojourner House in Kalamazoo.
She was born April 10, 1917 in Groningen, Netherlands, the daughter of Arnold and Jantina (Oving) Woldhuis. In 1942 she married Remburtus Knooihuizen in the Netherlands who passed away in 1985. Geertje loved to garden, sew and crochet and had made all of her own clothes and bed spreads.
Surviving are her children, Pete (Loie) Knooihuizen of West Olive, Jantina A.L. (Duane) Williams of Jenison, Anne (Gerrit) Kalkman of Kalamazoo, Arnolda (James) Baker of Caledonia, Hilda (Gerrit) terBorg of Codrington, Canada, Bert (Pam) Knooihuizen of Plainwell and Henry (Sandy) Knooihuizen of Otsego; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ginus (Geertje) Woldhuis of the Netherlands.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 4 brothers from Australia, 3 brothers and 1 sister from the Netherlands and one brother from the US.
Friends may visit with Geertje’s family Monday, January 12, 2015 starting at 10:00 A.M. to the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Mark Heijerman officiating.
Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a later time.

I am blessed to have known you Mother, here at Sojourner Place.
Although she could not talk to me she could show her affection & appreciation for me in other ways. I think she knew I cared about her.

I am so sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Geertje was very special to me and I loved her. I am so grateful to have known her and you. You were and are a wonderful daughter, one that I know your mother appreciated and was so very proud of.
