Garry L. Parrish

Garry passed away Monday, November 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Garry L. Parrish was born to James and Naomi (Punches) Parrish on June 8, 1946 along with his identical twin brother, Larry in Plainwell, Michigan. He was a 1964 Otsego High School graduate and a lifelong resident of the area. Garry was in the U.S. Army in the 196 Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He worked at a retail store for 43 years retiring in 2006. Garry was a life member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030 and was commander for 1 year and Quartermaster for several years. He loved his post very much and tried to do all he could for it. He helped to start the fish fries several years ago and had worked at the Allegan County Fair for 25 years helping the post.

On May 8, 1970 he married Teresa “Terri” Breck who survives.

Garry had 4 children, Tracie Parrish of Wayland, Garry Parrish Jr. of Plainwell, Chad (Kathy) Parrish of Plainwell and Michelle (Jim) Murphy of Plainwell who all survive.

Garry had 5 grandsons, Anthony and Kevin Parrish both of Tennessee, Austin Parrish of Otsego and Mike and Jared Murphy of Plainwell who all survive.

Also surviving are his siblings, Bob (Nancy) Parrish and Jack (Judy) Parrish; sisters-in-law, Barb Parrish and Jackie Parrish; brothers –in-law, Jim Ellinger and Jerry (Diana) Clason and his dog, Kaley who was his baby girl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in –law, father-in-law and siblings, Jean Ellinger, Jim Parrish and Larry Parrish.

His life’s journey carried him back to God’s side and he had a desire to learn so much more. He spent several years at the First Baptist Church of Otsego.

Garry loved spending time with his brothers having coffee and sharing stories. He also loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons.

Friends may meet Garry’s family from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 29, 2018 with Pastor Don Boss officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego Township.

Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030.

Contributions in memory of Garry may be made to First Baptist Church of Otsego or Otsego VFW Post #3030.

SO VERY SORRY TO HEAR OF GARRY’S PASSING, I WAS A CLASSMATE OF BOTH LARRY AND GARRY, ALWAYS REMEMBER THEM BEING SUCH CARING PEOPLE, WHEN THEY WORKED AT HARDINGS THEY MADE SURE MY GRANDMA HAD HER CHOCOLATE COVERED DONUTS RIGHT OFF THE DELIVERY TRUCK, SHE KNEW THEY WOULD HAVE THEM FOR HER! I’m so sorry to learn of Garry’s passing. I worked with Garry and Larry at Harding’s in 1964-1965. We always had fun and yet did our jobs! Both boys were characters! I have wonderful memories of them.

WE at American Legion Post 84 of Otsego, send our thoughts and prayers to the entire Parrish Family members. We give a long slow salute of respect to Gary for his service during time of war in Vietnam. Gary was a veterans who cared about his family, his community, and other veterans. He strongly supported his VFW Post with their many programs and functions. God Bless you Gary, and may GOD hold you near.
