Fred H. Katje of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home. Mr. Katje was born September 12, 1931 in Martin to Garry and Bessie (VanderPloeg) Katje and was a lifelong resident of the area. For 38 years he was employed with Menasha Corp. in Otsego, retiring in 1994. For over 50 years he had been a member of Calvary Community Church. In his leisure time Fred enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, camping and being with his family.
On May 8, 1965 in Otsego he married Marilyn Rantz who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dawn Katje, Kim Kanet, Jeff (Sue) Martin and Kate Katje; grandchildren, Brooke (Matt) Bakhuyzen, Colleen (Jason) Broadhurst, Chad (Sami) Martin and A.J. (Laura) Foote; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Joshua, Benjamin, Faith, Esther, Sarah, Xander, Zacory and Shailyn; brothers, Jim, John and Bob, sisters, Ann, Emily, Dorothy, Joyce and Joan and their spouses; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a sister, Betty; and a great-grandson, Levi.
Friends may visit with Fred’s family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday June 24, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Martin Reformed Church, Pastor Joshua Amaezechi officiating. Burial will follow at East Martin Cemetery.
