Elmer Walters
Elmer Walters of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, in Otsego. Mr. Walters was born August 16, 1919, in Otsego to Henry and Tena (VanDerVeer) Wolters, Sr. During WWII he served a European tour of duty in the U.S. Army. On February 21, 1941 in Bryan, Ohio, he married the former Wilma Munn. Following his return from the Army they lived in Ionia, MI and Tampa, FL before returning to make their permanent home in Otsego. For many years he was employed with
Michigan Cottage Cheese and Plainwell Paper Co
. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego. Surviving are two brothers, Clyde (Evelyn) Walters of Kalamazoo and Ernest (Betty) Wolters of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Hattie (late-Cecil) Burdick of Allegan and Flossie (late-Ron) Wesler of Gobles; a brother-in-law, Wilson (Maybelle) Munn of Livonia, MI; a sister-in-law, Betty McHale of FL; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his parents; 4 brothers, Henry, Jr. (Madge), John (Lorraine), Floyd and Russell; 2 sisters, Mildred (Ellsworth) Hurlbut and Dorothy (Gene) Benedict. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the First Congregational Church of Otsego where funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Pastor Don Ray officiating. Military Honors at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell, will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #3030. Contributions in memory of Elmer may be made to the Otsego District Public Library or Borgess VNA & Hospice.
