Elmer Black

Elmer Black of Alamo Township, passed away Friday, September 24, 2010 at his home. Elmer was born October 20, 1919 in Kalamazoo the son of John and Bertha (Ketchum) Black. He was a veteran of WW II and had been employed at Clarage Fan. He was a member of the Kalamazoo VFW and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, Tigers Baseball and being with his children and grandchildren. On August 10, 1957 he married Eleanor Stouder who preceded him in death in 2008. Elmer is survived by his children, Gary Black of Alamo, Bill Black of Warsaw, IN, Eric Black of Plainwell and Debora Black of Alamo; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother, Garland Black, of Plainwell and a sister, Vera Kershaw, of Portage. Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother, Lucille Hewitt, Mildred Miller, Florence Lappin and Martin Black. Friends may meet with his family on Monday from 5-8 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Military Honors and burial will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of SW Michigan.
