Eleanore “Ellie” A. Porter-Smith of Gobles, Michigan passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 in Kalamazoo. Ellie Smith was born September 15, 1929 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Nathan and Ada (Root) Porter. Ellie graduated from Richland High School in 1947. She had worked many clerical jobs over the years her favorite was working at the West Michigan Cancer Center. Ellie enjoyed playing and watching many sports: from softball to stock car racing and from golfing to following the Lions, she enjoyed them all. She loved spending time with her family more than anything else. Surviving are three children, Yvonne (Wayne) Booth, Keith Drake and Gail Munn; 4 grandchildren, Wendy Pheils, Janet Mendocha, Kimberly Hoffmaster and Tammy Jo Nye; 7 great grandchildren, Matthew Mendocha, Brianna Van Camp, Ciara Hoffmaster, Haley Munn, Michael Mendocha, Paul Pheils and Drew Nye; 1 brother, Herb Councell; 1 sister, Marylou Peck; many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Friends may meet with her family for a wake today at 12:30pm at Murawski Tavern, 208 S. State, Gobles. Contributions in memory of Ellie may be made to West Michigan Cancer Center.
