Elaine Mary Iler, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2021 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Elaine was born to Carl E. and Frances E. (Pack) Boehmer on March 24, 1927. She met Donald J. Iler in the summer of 1944. He enlisted in the Navy and they wanted to marry, on a weekend pass they did and then he was shipped off to war for another year and a half. Don and Elaine celebrated 70 years of marriage before his death on February 5, 2015.
At a young age Elaine became a Christian and grew up in the church loving to sing and play piano. She played violin in the Jr. and Sr. High orchestras. She always thought violin wasn’t her gift. Piano certainly was! She became quite an accomplished pianist playing for every church they attended over the years. Sometimes playing the organ when needed for services. She went on to play for several funeral homes while living in the Pontiac area. Don used to tease her and say “she really likes playing for live audiences best!”
Her love for Jesus always shone through her music as she wanted to use her talent for Him. She raised 5 children and was mostly a stay at home mom. Elaine taught piano in the home for many years and even some organ lessons. She enjoyed playing a wedding or special event now and then because she was paid very well and could show off a little.
Elaine was known also for her friendliness, beautiful smile and very funny and contagious laugh! She and Don laughed a lot together (he definitely loved to make her laugh) and they went through good times and bad, with total trust in God and that sense of humor to fall back on. They had so many friends, even with all their moves they continued to keep in touch. They bowled on a church league at Gingellville Baptist with some of those cherished friends and the stories they told were hilarious.
Preceding her in death are her beloved Don, her parents; grandparents; grandson, Brad Dalton; brother, Charles and her “favorite” son-in-law, Steve Siegwart.
Surviving are her children, Donald Jr. (Carmen) Iler, Jane Dalton, Catherine Siegwart, David (Christine) Iler and Dennis Iler; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her blended family along with many nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with Pastor Timothy Morris officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at 1:00 P.M.

Elaine was such a sweet person with a dry sense of humor. I loved to sit with her and listen to music and sing along with the old hymns. Just wish we could have remembered more of the words Sorry for the families loss, but God’s gain.
