Doris passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Stanford Lodge in Plainwell.
She was born September 26, 1933 in the Oakwood Neighborhood in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Thompson) Barber. Doris worked at Plainwell Paper, Kal-Equip, Mead and Rock Tenn for 20 years until her retirement in 1996.
She enjoyed winters in Florida, trips to the casino, going to yard sales, traveling and car rides. Doris loved her Sunday morning trips to the lake shore with her son, Marty, “Pizza Tuesdays”, playing cards with her sisters on Thursday and going out to breakfast with her family and friends.
She was a member of the VFW Post #3030 Ladies Auxiliary and Otsego United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Bruce (Franceen) Schuiteboer of Arizona, Cindy (Phil) Banner of Shelbyville, Chris (Teresa) Schuiteboer of Delton and Marty (Marcia) Schuiteboer of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter and sister, Beatrice Gauthier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jerry Schuiteboer and siblings, Gerald Barber, Lucille Woodhams, Lillian Stull, Lawrence Barber, Marge Gilligan, Mildred Walker-Boss and Beverly Gauthier.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at a later time.

Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan
or the Otsego United Methodist Church.

My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. My what stories we all shared in the locker room at Mead aka Rocktenn Papermill ! I was so touched when Doris called me a few weeks ago from Lifecare. Loree, Therse, Kathy, and myself were planning on going to visit her when it was aloud. She will be missed by all. Good bye my friend.

I only learned this evening of Doris’ passing. My condolences to her entire family. I will always remember her smile and sweetness. I often joined she and her sisters on Thursday lunches before moving away. I loved the Barber sisters. Rest In Peace my friend.

So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing . I have such fond memories of her and Art. From working with her at the mill to their visits in Ouray Co.. and in Quartzsite Az. where we lived in later years.
