Donald D. Newton

Donald D. Newton of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 surrounded by his family in Kalamazoo. Mr. Newton was born February 16, 1931 in Kalamazoo the son of Gilbert and Winifred Newton. Don worked for the city of Kalamazoo as a Water Treatment Supervisor retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Otsego United Methodist Church, the Otsego Moose, V.F.W. Post 3030 and a CB Club with the handle “Sewer Rat”. Don enjoyed working in his garage, golfing, bowling, hunting , coffee outside in the mornings and animals, especially his dog Sally. Don is survived by his wife, Joyce (Mund); his children, Sue Ellen Rozell of Otsego, Julia Ann (Bill) Bentley of N.H., Laura Irene Newton of VA, Gilbert Harry (Deb Ogle) Newton of R.I., Winifred (Franklin) Byron of Parchment and Melissa (Terry) Boss of Plainwell; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Winnie Lahue, Bob Newton, Dick Newton and Mary Lou McCormick; many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alice (McLean) Newton; 2 children, Diane Newton and Donald Newton Jr.; a brother Leroy Newton and sister, Jean Fitzpatrick. Friends may meet with Don’s family on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the

Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego

, Services will held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the Otsego United Methodist Church, with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery in Kalamazoo. Contributions in memory of Don may be made to Alamo Nursing Home, Otsego United Methodist Church or Borgess VNA and Hospice Services.
