Don Smith

Don Smith of Otsego, Michigan, has “Gone Away With a Friend” on November 6, 2010. He was born April 7, 1939 to Dave and Margaret (Knight) Smith in Kalamazoo. Don graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958 then entered the USMC. He served in Japan and was honorably discharged May 11, 1964. He worked for 44 years at Parker Hannifin and enjoyed his job as a tool and die maker. Don’s favorite things were “Classic Cars” and going to car shows, cruising and going to Deano’s 50’s Diner on Wednesday nights with his many cruising friends. On December 12, 1981 he was united in marriage to Macky Morse, who survives. Don is also survived by three children, David Smith, Donnie (Michelle) Smith and Teresa Rayburn; and a step-daughter, Nancy (Doug) Risner all of Otsego. Nine grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; a sister Frances (Robert) Rodenberger; 2 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Smith of Kalamazoo and Eileen Baurke of Le Mesa, CA. Preceding Don in death were his parents, 2 brothers Dave and Paul Smith and his step son, Michael Jerry Morse in 2008. Friends may meet with his family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Pastor Mike Risner officiating. Burial at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, will follow with Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #3030. Contributions in memory of Don may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
