Dolores M. Pulver

Dolores “Tike” Marietta (Carruthers) Pulver of Otsego passed away at home on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

She was born November 29, 1932 in Plainwell to John “Babe” and Winona (Hawkins) Carruthers. She graduated from Otsego High School in June 1950 and the American Beauty Academy in July 1963. She worked at Fashion Flair Beauty Salon for many years before opening Dee’s Chop Shop until she retired in November 2018.

She was united in marriage to Robert E. “Brute” Pulver on December 15, 1950. They had five children.

She was very active in her neighborhood and community. She organized and held an annual Halloween party complete with trick or treating for 33 years at her home. She was the president of the Pine Creek Social Club. Dolores loved to bake and enjoyed giving her homemade banana bread with chocolate chips to many recipients over the years, often delivered while still warm from the oven.

Dolores was involved in music all her life. She directed a junior choir at the Otsego United Methodist Church for years, sang in the chancel choirs at the Otsego Church of God and at the Congregational Church downtown Kalamazoo. She was also active in the adult choir and played the organ and piano along with the dulcimer.

She was a born again Christian and a believer and was not afraid to share her faith and belief with anyone. She would never hesitate to stop and have prayer with anyone, anywhere. Dolores had heard a story about the dates of one’s life. The date you are born and the date you die. She was more focused on the part of the story that asks you—what did you do with your dash in between those dates? Those are the ones that count. She was also about hugging those closest to you, and let them know how much they mean to you. So, how is your dash?

Surviving are her children, Penny Kay (Lark) Baker of Otsego, Craig (Pam) Pulver of Kalamazoo, Michele Pulver of Otsego and Dixon (Karena) Pulver of Kalamazoo; daughter-in-law, Barbara Pulver of Kalamazoo; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren with another due soon; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Richard (Mary) Carruthers; sister, Lana (Joseph) Langone along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on July 18, 2000; son, Mark Pulver; grandchildren, Mia Spalvieri Baker and Seth Browning and her sister, Marcia Walters in 2019.

Friends may meet with Dolores’ family from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.

A celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Otsego United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.

Contributions in memory of Dolores may be made to the Otsego United Methodist Church Youth Summer Camp Fund, Christian Neighbors or to the charity of choice.

I only knew her for a couple of years but she always made me smile, gave me hugs and made things seem a little brighter as she knew what we were going through. She was a very special person. I am so honored to have met her and she will always have a special place in my heart. I will continue to make her banana bread as that is one thing we had in common. We may have lost a very special person but the Lord received an angel. Prayers to the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Pulver family. Your mom was such a great friend to my mom Katie. I know that mom opened up her arms and gave her a huge hug when your mom arrived in heaven. She was always so kind to our family after mom died by bringing over her baked beans for our Sunday dinners or by dropping off a freshly baked chocolate chip banana bread loaf. Loved hearing the stories about her and my mom back in the days of high school. She sang at my Mom & Dads wedding as well as my sister Pat’s. I will always have fond memories of you mom. God Bless.

To the family~~~Shocked & saddened to learn about Dolores. She “walked the talk”. She was such a kind and giving person to all, be it in handwritten notes, hugs, prayers, and her many loaves of banana bread! Quick to offer words of comfort with a smile. She lived a life of service to others, it wasn’t fake, but genuine from the heart. She had a love for people, a playful attitude to life. I enjoyed our times to “chat/visit” while she was cutting Jim’s hair. Ironically when I first learned of Dolores’s death I thought where will Jim go for his haircuts? Then I remembered, guess she will be doing this in heaven, in between making loaves of banana bread! Dolores will be reaping her rewards for all her numerous acts of kindness. Sadly we have lost an angel on earth with her passing. My heart goes out to her family.

To Delores’ family

What a great loss you are all bearing. Delores lived a life of giving, loving, sharing, hugs and prayer. I’ll never forget seeing her prayer requests lined up on her washer, or the many times she called us to have prayer and uplift us. Her presence always made a room brighten with her smile, fun and positive ways. Her dedication to the Lord was endless; including her participation in our choir at Otsego UMC, playing the piano/organ, mission team, and so many other ways. The literally hundreds of loaves of her wonderful banana chocolate chip bread helped send so many of our youth to camp, and those of us who bought it so enjoyed her treat. Her caring gestures to us and so many will be remembered always. Her energy was boundless. Our loss is heavens gain and the unsinkable Delores will be leading an angelic choir and sending us her faithful prayers from heaven. We will miss her so much but there’s no doubt she is with Jesus and her loved ones gone before. We were blessed to call her friend. May God fill your hearts with the fun and wonderful memories she has given you.

Penny, Michelle & Craig:

Your mother has been in my life for as long as I can remember. She made such a difference with my mom after my father died — coming to her house to wash her hair and just being there. She came and did a course with Caren and my mom with Landmark Education and I was so impressed! There are so many more things I could name. Just being in her presence made a difference and always cheered me up (and so many more people I am sure). When my parents showed me their gravestone, my dad always pointed out how close he was to your father’s — he loved making projects with him and that made him so happy to be buried so close. Your mother lived a long full life — but it is never easy to lose one’s parent. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

To the Pulver family, it won’t be the same not to have Delores at church, either attending, enjoying Sunday School, or playing the organ. I will miss her hugs, prayers for my health, inciteful conversations, her beautiful smile, the fun we had playing organ and piano duets and laughing when getting lost in the duets. Her faith was so strong and she shared it whenever she could. She loved her family with all of her heart. Our love to all of you, may you feel the prayers being said to give you peace and comfort in the coming days. God bless you.

We were saddened to hear of Dolores’s passing. She has been a genuine and loving neighbor for over thirty years. She always had a smile and a hug when we saw her. We remember the annual Halloween parties at the Pulvers when the kids were little. Dolores has many jewels in her crown and will be very much missed. It is comforting to know that she is with her heavenly Father and reunited with Bob. May God give you His peace and comfort in this time of loss.

Dear Family of Dolores, Just found out about her passing and am thinking of all of you. Not fun to lose a mother! She was such a special lady. Certainly left a mark here in this area. So involved music even in High School. We were in Choir together, in a sextet and in the Methodist Mrs sextet .She was also in a Bible study at Royal Estates for awhile. I will miss seeing her around from time to time. Always a smile on her face for others. she will be missed.

Such a great Christian person who loved the Lord with all her might. To Mrs. P’s family… I just want to reiterate what an awesome lady your mom was. We moved into the neighborhood in the early 1960’s and grew up with you guys… your parents and you 5 kids and our parents and their 5 kids.

You supported us greatly when our dad passed away in August and I received the most beautiful note from your mom after I returned home from Michigan. It meant a lot and it’s in my keepsake box forever. She was a very wise lady and I am honored to have known her. She definitely made the most of the life she lived here on earth and I’m sure she will continue to impress in Heaven.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I have had the honor of knowing Dolores my entire life. Dolores’ father and my mother were step brother and sister. Dolores played the organ and her sister Marcia sang at Lloyd’s and my wedding in the Otsego Methodist Church in September 1963. The entire family was/is very musical talented. Dolores will be greatly missed by everyone.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for being my wonderful , loving Grandmother . Your words have moved many , and if the people were stacked , I would say you moved a mountian in your time . Your faith officially moved a mountain. You were the motivational factor in my life, as far as spreading the word of Christ. You taught me how to cut hair , and I do have 3 female clients, who are all happy with your teachings. (Yes they did in fact let me cut their hair, more than once 😉

Your banana bread will be missed but we are working round the clock, to find your secret recipe . I’m thinking the love of seeing others enjoy your bread is the secret is and will forever remain with you which was and is irreplaceable. I hope your with the love of your life, Grandpa Brut . As you kept on with your beautiful positive attitude and your warming, and compassionate presence .

I want to thank you for all you have done , to out your faith and your family before a things.

Your body was truly a temple of the Hy spirit . I could only hope to accomplish a portion of what goodness ,and act of giving kindness , you will be hard to outdo. Ok you win , your unbeatable, but you set the bar so high , and along with your hardworking son, the two of you have set records in heaven, as far as doing unto others , as you would have them do unto you. (Showoffs 😉

If you see my dad , tell him I miss him dearly , and not a day goes by , that I don’t think of his laughter and cheer Although his final years were very hard to help him through, it was he who sacraficed his life for others ,and the example set by both of you , will be remembered and respected for eternity.

The best people always go early , but nothing could fill the void left by you both, oh and by the way , I’ll be ready for that miracle anytime you guys are ready . (With a wink) just like he always would do, he loved to see other people smiling and laughing, always more than satisfied with his best work (Also let him know that I’m gonna need some better leads , and some small time investor’s, as we did face a lawsuit immediately following his passing, causing a tidal wave , and any assistance would be greatly appreciated, (Please call the number at the bottom, if your feel like helping a good cause , I’ll give you the details )

Ok I think he got the message, and please pray for my wonderful mother , as she has been doing her best to stay positive, a people like you two, are so one of a kind , that it’s hard to believe we will never see them again. So pray for her if you would be so kind . Perhaps stop by and give her a hug.

Grandma, are you still reading me a bible scripture ??? It’s already 11:30 pm, ? Comes to mind . People who knew get me , she was a walking living bible .

Tell Seth to send me the song , and tell Grandpa, if he has time I wouldn’t mind if he taught me how to build one of those planes he used to fly.

Well , I’ll hope to hear from you all very soon, and if anybody would like to call for any reason, may it be some helpful advice or perhaps your car broke down and you couldn’t reach anyone , or perhaps a business plan or idea to make a difference in this world which we are all feeling the powers of our world now, the best thing we can do is get together , and make our futures a better place. Feel free to call 2695696809 Two,six, nine, five, six, nine, six, eight ,zero, nine.

Prayer lines are open anytime

Send us a sign Grandma , that through me , we may all see the power of God’s heavenly power, and may those who feel his presence (the good goose bumps ) come fourth and let it be known that One of his earthly Angels , had made it home. Love you Grandma and all who have passed , in Gods holy name , we pray that your memories, are positive, and your smiles , a gift from you Delores. You will be missed dearly . 2695696809
