Dean King
Dean King of Otsego, Michigan passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at his home. Mr. King was born April 24, 1936 in Eaton County to Floyd and Ruth (Thomas) King. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his time in the service Dean worked for Menasha Corp for 27 years, retiring in 2000. He was an active member of many organizations including: the Whittington Center Gun Club, Fennville Rod & Gun Club, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Manistee Clan Muzzle Loading Club, the Gun River Conservation Club, the NRA, the Eagles, the Elks Lodge #1711, the Otsego Moose and the American Legion. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, muzzle loading, working on guns and anything out-of-doors.
On August 31, 1973 in Otsego he married Patricia VanDerhoff who survives. Also surviving are his children, Brian (Terri) King, of Allegan, Bryon (Kandy) Campbell, of Otsego, Deborah Smalla of Kalamazoo and Dianna Wilson of Otsego; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Neal King of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the
Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego
where funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday with Ken Terry Jr. officiating. According to his wishes cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice.

Dear Pat and Family,
We will miss seeing Dean at the Elks. He always had a smile for us; I especially will miss him teasing me about not putting a time card for him at my work! He would come down to MillAssist and sit in the office and talk to me, mostly about the Elks.
Dean was a special guy and I hope all of you know that he is now your Angel in Heaven watching over you!

All of us at On Target Gun Shop are saddened by the loss of Dean. I’ve personally known him for over thirty years and will certainly miss his wit & wisdom as everybody knew when Dean was in the house. He had a great sense of humor that allowed a brisk dialog whenever we were at the shop, at the range, or around the campfire. I’ll always remember him as the character that called so many of us, “Ol’ rattlesnake bait”…a term of endearment that he coined and is still repeated often. I will be praying for the King family as you work through your loss. We will always remember Dean as we miss him already.

Dean was very instrumental in the upgrades to our Rifle Range this past year. He will be truly missed by his fellow rifle range shooters.

Bryon: I was most sorry to here of your Dad’s passing. I saw the name in the obits but did not connect it with you until this morning at 11am. when Linda informed me. Please accept my most sincere expression of sympathy and prayers for your Father in Heaven to comfort and strengthen you during this time of grieving and sense of loss. May God bless you and keep you.

Dear Pat and Bryon:
We were so saddened to hear to Dean’s passing. He was a fine man, and we enjoyed listening to his stories. My Aunt Helen was also enthralled with him; remember she gave him a linen handkerchief to start his fires! Do take care of yourselves now and know that he is in a better place and not suffering.

We just heard about Dean, We are so sorry. He was one of a kind. I enjoyed shooting and camping and just visting with Dean for so many years. He was truely a muzzleloader through and through. He would never hestitate to help me on or off the range. I will truely miss him and keep him in our prayers. If there is anything we can do please call on us for anything.
