Dean went to be with Jesus on July 19, 2022.
He was born in the spring of 1944 to Dean E. and Laura Hermann in the Upper Peninsula of MI as their second son. His siblings are Bill Ursula, Greg, Chris and Jim. He grew up in St. Ignace and Newberry. He joined the Navy the fall after high school and retired 30 years, 3 weeks and 3 days later. In civilian terms, he always said “I did everything from empty bed pans to run the place.”
He married Vicki in the spring of 1965. They had 2 son, Tony and Matt (Karen). Dean and Vicki have 4 grandchildren, Zach, Ollie, Caleb and Brielle. He became a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in the spring of 1993 in Chicago and served in 5 different dioceses.
His life was one of helping others including military personnel, health care workers, patients, and those who came to him for help. He believed in tending to people’s immediate needs, but also helping them to address the cause of their problems.
Cremation has taken place.
Friends may visit with Dean’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, until the time of the mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M., with Bishop Paul Bradley officiating.
Burial will take place at 2:30 P.M, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Dean may be made to
Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan

Vicki, Tony and Matt: it’s challenging to find the words to express how much our 50 year bond with the Hermanns has meant to us, and still does. I am so grateful for all the times we have shared, and so sad that we have to say goodbye, for a while, to such an important part of our families. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May God surround you all with comfort and grace during this difficult time. I submitted a previous remembrance but not sure it went through.

Dear Vicki, our prayers are with you and your family. Dean will ways hold a special place in my heart. He was there when Father Jim baptized Rebecca, and he baptized the next 4 babies. He was there to lead the rosary when my mom passed away a week after he baptized Gianna. I cherish all the memories of him.

I’ve now lost my high school debating partner. I’m so sure this fine man will enjoy every moment with Jesus. He was always a friend. We emailed many times about our studies as I was in a pastoral theology program. He always wanted to help in any way. Blessings to his wonderful family.

Dearest Vicky,
I am very saddened to hear of Dean’s passing. I am sending you all my love and prayers to you and your sons. I always thought you and Dean were a beautiful example of Jesus’ love and care. Your friendship was inspiring during our formation years and beyond. It was so good to see you both of you at the deacon’s retreat at Mundelien a few years back. I’m sure my Jim and your Dean and all the other saints from the Class of 93 are having a great time in our heavenly home. Their reward is justly deserved. We will all be together again some day. Love you Vicky.

Dear Vicki,
We are distressed to hear of Dean’s passing away. We were looking forward to seeing you both at the 60th class reunion in Newberry on August 20.
We were happy to have met you and Dean at one time at the great Mexican Real Restaurant in Otsego along with one of your sons.
We hope you will be consoled by friends and family and knowing that Dean will see you later in Heaven.
Blessings, Barb and Dale Keiser
