Dayton E. “Bill” Hoard
Bill passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his home in Martin.
He was born July 31, 1943 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of Dayton and Frances (Curtis) Hoard. Bill owned and operated Midwest Upholstery in Kalamazoo until 1975 and Bill’s Restoration restoring antique Triumph motorcycles for over 50 years. Bill was an amateur and professional motorcycle hill climber and enjoyed following NASCAR. On August 14, 1959 he married Lorene McDaniel who survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Debra (Jim) Coburn of Plainwell and Tammy Hoard-Peckens of Parchment; 4 grandchildren, James (Tammi) Sprau, Johnathon (Laura) Peckens, William Peckens and Patrick Schmitt; 2 great-grandchildren, Cooper and Clay Sprau and his siblings, Beverly Burke and Bonnie Leale both of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara.
Friends may meet with Bill’s family from 6-8 P.M. on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 with Celebrant, Bill Rose officiating.
Burial will follow at South Martin Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Otsego United Methodist Church.

Deb and I will miss Bill very much. Over the years, I’ve shared his jokes and thoughts with many people; including professors in the English Department at the University of Michigan. We’re all like minded people but not necessarily hill climbers. I know Bill is at peace at this time. Dear Lorene, Beverly, Bonnie, Deb, Tammy,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this most difficult time. Bill was such a talented, gifted, sweet man you just loved to be around! When I first met him he had his Upholstery business, and I was so impressed that a man could run a sewing machine with such precision, any woman on this earth would wish she could sew so well.
His unique qualities with his Triumph Motorcycle business, was also a God given talent. The beautiful bikes he built with the stories that went along with it, you just enjoyed listening to him speak about them. Knowing Bill for 40 years, as Uncle Bill, I also have such wonderful memories of him that will remain in my heart forever. A genuine gentle man who will be missed by many! God Bless–Kathy

It is with great sadness I learned of Bill’s passing. I really enjoyed our talks about all things Triumph motorcycles and seeing him at the Vegas auctions. He was a man of great knowledge and skill. He often spoke of his family with great affection. Please accept my deepest condolences. I will really miss Bill. We have lost a great one in our business, he will be sorely missed.

Paul always had a high regard for Bill, and I as well…that will never change. I have many fond memories of times Paul & I spent with Bill & Lorene which has always put a smile of my face. Bill & Paul were true Triumph men and their spirit is in us all…RIP

I only knew Bill from my time spent chatting when I delivered, but you only had to meet him once to call him a friend. I sure enjoyed Bill and the many entertaining stories I will miss you Bill. My condolences to you Lorene and your family. RIP Bill.
