Charlie passed away, Friday, June 28, 2024, at Alamo Nursing Home in Alamo Township

He was born August 29, 1946, in Kalamazoo, the son of Thomas and Rachel (Barrett) Kinnane. Charlie began umpiring when his son started playing t-ball. It soon became his life’s passion, and he became an MHSAA registered official and was an official for 35 years. His favorite memory during his career was umpiring games played by Derek Jeter. 

Charlie was happiest when watching his grandchildren play sports. Later in life Charlie enjoyed playing cards and looked forward to his Thursday card games with his buddies. On April 12, 1969, he married Lucille Lang, and they were married for 12 years and shared two sons. 

Surviving are his sons, Chuck (Tera) Kinnane of Plainwell and George (spouse, Tyler Schaefer) Kinnane of Grand Rapids, 5 grandchildren, Madison, Kennedy, McKinley, Kaylynn and Ariana along with many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Patricia Martin, Thomas Kinnane, Michael Kinnane, Katherine Brawner and infant sister, Sharon.

Friends may visit with Charlie’s family from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego and from 10:00 A.M. to the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 3, 2024. 

Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Charlie may be made to the West Michigan Officials Association or to Alamo Nursing Home Activities Fund.
