Catherine S. Pelfresne

Catherine Sienna Pelfresne, age 90, passed away on October 12, 2017.

Catherine was born in Templeton, Iowa on December 29, 1926 to Frank and Katie Fischer. In 1950, she married her loving husband, Robert Pelfresne, who is waiting to greet her in heaven. Catherine was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, MI for many years.

In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, golfing and scrapbooking but she will be most remembered by her family and friends for her love of cooking; no one ever left Catherine’s house hungry. Her greatest joy was keeping up with the lives and happiness of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and seeing them come together for holidays and other large family gatherings.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her nine children, Lois (Gary) Herline, Robert (Karen) Pelfresne, Gary (Sue) Pelfresne, Nancy Pelfresne, Jim (Sarah) Pelfresne, Linda (John) Stegeman, Bill (Terri) Pelfresne, Lori (Dan) Baas and Janet (Brian) Vestergaard; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. One of 9 children, she is survived by a brother Otmar (Cookie) Fischer; sister, Dorothy (Frank) Youngblood; sisters-in-law, Eleanore Pelfresne, Dona Mae Pelfresne, Ann Sell and Maxine Heyd and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandson.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with Catherine’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00 A.M.

Burial of ashes will take place at 2:30 P.M. at St. Margaret Catholic Cemetery.

If you would like to acknowledge Catherine’s love of flowers and participate in honoring her memory, please bring the stem of your choice to the memorial service.

Contributions in memory of Catherine may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Ministry of Otsego.

Her generous spirit touched us; her prayers kept us safe.

Our sincerest condolences to her family. I enjoyed her letters and wished I had written more frequently. I fondly remember her smiling face sitting in the folk’s kitchen. May God draw her close in heaven as she greets her big family waiting for her there.

She was the first person I knew that did garages sales. A real bargain person! She made the best cookies…graham crackers and frosting. Loved going to the Pelfresne home and spending time there. Mom Pelfresne was always so kind and welcoming to us teenagers. She will be missed.

I will miss Aunt Catherine coming to Iowa for different gatherings. She was an fun and loving woman who always had stories to tell. I loved to watch the Fischer brothers and sisters get together. Now, the sisters will be together in heaven talking and laughing. You all have my sympathy in Catherine’s family as I haven’t met some of you. Paula Fischer See

Wonderful sister-in-law, friend for 54 years, mentor, confidant. These are only a few of the things that I will miss with the passing of Catherine. She was a great lady who raised a wonderful family. My sympathy to all of her family.

I was introduced to Catherine through the International computer game “Word” via my sister Mary. We played many a game, but only one or two games were permitted by Catherine at any one time. It was great fun whilst playing this type of Scrabble game to interact with her and to hear of her family gatherings, and of the superb bakes she used to concoct. It was an upbeat different type of pen-pal contact, and it was an honour and privilege to play against her. I only wished that one day we could have met with her. My most sincerest of condolences to all of Catherine’s family, from a distant friend, Southampton, England.

Dear Pelfresne Family, it was a honor and privilege to have met your Mom!

Her love for her family and friends was unconditional. Her sense of humor, optimism, that delicious apple cake she baked, and she always made you feel so welcome! Thank You Catherine

Love and Light to you all!

Dear Family: I was privileged to know Catherine as a wonderful lady who was well versed about the world around us. She was one of my wonderful patients that I always enjoyed seeing. May the Lord remind you all of the wonderful memories she left for all of us during our times of mourning.
