Byron Eugene ‘Gene’ Fullerton, a longtime resident of Allegan, passed away

, at his home after a long illiness. Mr. Fullerton was born
April 12, 1920
in
Washington
,
Indiana
to Raymond and Grace (Gilley)
Fullerton
. During WWII Gene served his country on the front lines in the U.S. Army, earned a Bronze Star and was discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. For 40 years he was employed with the J.C. Penney Co., retiring as the manager of the
Kalamazoo
store. He was a member of the
Allegan
United
Methodist
Church
for 47 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. On
June 1, 1947
in
Washington
,
IN
he married June Tharp, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (
Wayne
) Wood of Williamson, NY and Brenda (Bruce) Carroll of Allegan; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lyndle McIlwain of
Baton Rouge
,
LA.
Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Fullerton. Friends may meet the family from

to
7 P.M.
today at the
Winkel Funeral Home,
Otsego,
where funeral services will be held at
11:00 A.M.
Thursday, Pastor Bob Stover officiating. Military Honors at
Hudson
Corners
Cemetery
, Allegan, will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #3030. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan.
