Burtie L. Deneau of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Deneau was born December 13, 1928 in Otsego to Alfred and Ethel (Fox) Rice and was a 1947 graduate of Otsego High School.
Burtie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego. For over 20 years she volunteered at Borgess Hospital, where she had served as president of Borgess Associates. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, canning vegetables, traveling, Labor Day Mackinac Bridge walks over 20 times and shopping, always buying items on sale. More than anything she loved her family and grandchildren. Burtie was a wonderful woman and will be missed by her friends and family.
On July 5, 1949 in Angola, IN she married her beau of two weeks, James Deneau, and they had celebrated 62 years together. In addition to her husband, Burtie is survived by two sons, Thomas and Jacqueline Deneau of Watervliet and James and Ellyn Deneau of Alamo; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Martin and Margaret Filkins; a half-sister, Nancy (Ron) Feniger; a half-brother, Jim (Janice) Rice; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, David James Deneau in 1989; a sister, Pauline Coradini; and a brother, Alfred Rice.
Friends may visit with her family at the
Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego
on Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the First Congregational Church of Otsego, Pastor David Youngs officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.
