Betty passed away, Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Alamo Nursing Home in Kalamazoo.
She was born November 25, 1924, in Otsego, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Fox) Rice. Betty was a graduate of Plainwell High School. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed babysitting and taking care of her family. Betty was very proud to knit hats and mittens for the area school children for Brenda Powers ministry.
On April 26, 1941, in Ohio, she married Jack Martin who passed away in 1999. After her husband retired in 1979, they moved to the Florida Keys for 3 years and then to Georgia before returning to the area.
Surviving are her children, Dick (Theresa) Martin of Georgia, Sue (Dick) VanDerhoff of Kalamazoo and Don (Lisa) Martin of Kalamazoo; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Merry Hughes and Jack Martin; sisters, Margaret Filkins, Pauline Corradini and Burtie Deneau and her brother, Al Rice.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Betty’s life is planned for Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 2 to 4 P.M. at the Bellflower, 4700 W. D Ave., Kalamazoo.
