Betty Emma Cornelia
Betty Emma Cornelia passed away Thursday afternoon, August 3, 2017 at the Life Care Center in Plainwell.
She was born June 14, 1934 in Little Lake, Michigan. She was the 2
nd
youngest daughter of 12 children born to Jerry and Emma (Furaitor) Westman. On August 13, 1952 she married Norman Cornelia in Amasa, Michigan. Betty was a homebody and Norman’s service in the U.S. Air Corp meant lots of moves, and thus lots of places to call home for the family . They eventually settled in Otsego. Betty enjoyed crafts such as crocheting and even doll making. She liked to Wii Bowl and watch Golf on T.V. Betty was a wonderful cook and baker, making large meals for her family.
Survivors include her children, Debra Joy (Dennis) Carlon of Wayland, Ginger (Ron) Schoonbeck of Kalamazoo and Dennis Cornelia (Lucy Henry) of Plainwell; 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Jody, Daniel, Christopher, Rose, Bruce, Kevin, Merritt III, Michael and Kelly; 24 great grandchildren and she was looking forward to her first great great granddaughter’s birth. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie Jensen of Gwinn, Michigan and Sharon Anderson of Ishpeming, Michigan and sister in law MaryAnn Westman of Racine, Wisconcin. She was preceded in death by her husband, and 9 siblings.
Betty will be laid to rest by her husband Norman at Hematite Cemetery in Amasa, Michigan at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3940 Peninsular Dr SE # 180, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
