Bernard Warnement
Bernard “Bud” J. Warnement of Plainwell, MI passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at Wings Home in Allegan. Bud was born October 21, 1928 in Plainwell, MI, the son of Albert and Evon (Buhren) Warnement. Bud was a 1946 graduate of Plainwell High School. Following graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On July 1, 1950 in Otsego, Bud was married to Vivian J. Paddock. For many years Bud was the co-owner of A.H. Warnement Farm Equipment and Repair in Plainwell, selling new and used farm equipment and working as a tractor mechanic. Bud served with the Plainwell Fire Department for several years and with Gun Plain Twp. Fire Department for over 65 years, serving as Chief and Assistant Chief. Bud also served as Gun Plain Twp. Trustee for 40 years. On April 2, 2014 he was honored with a certificate for “Outstanding Achievement” by the Gun Plain Twp. Board. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Otsego and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 7796.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; siblings, Joan Boniface of Delton, Louise Gates of Plainwell, Albert W. (Sally) Warnement of Sturgis and Paul Warnement of Delton; and many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Josephine; his parents and by his brothers Francis and Edward.
Friends may meet with Bud’s family at
Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego
on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 2-4 and from 6-8pm with a Rosary to begin at 6pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10a.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Otsego, with Rev. Fr. Ted Martin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Bud may be made to

To all of Bud’s Family, we are so very, very sorry for your loss of Bud this morning. Please know that our thoughts, prayers, and sympathy are with you. Bud was a super guy and will be missed by so many. He did so much for the Plainwell Community, for which people are grateful for. All of you take care now.

Oh Vivian, I knew he was bad when I stopped and talked to him right after he got out of the nursing home, but I’m so sad to hear he has passed.
Bud is in his arms now and out of any discomfort.

Bud was an every day part of my life growing up on 8th St. He always came over to my folks house for Sunday morning coffee. He was a dear friend of the family. So sorry about his parting. I will remember him always with a deep fondness.

Bid & Vivian have been my neighbors my entire childhood, and since I moved back into the home I was raised in I was blessed to have them next door to me again as I raised my Children. I will say that 8th street will not be the same. Im so going to miss hearing Bud say after most of his sentences ” And all that there” Having him bring over goodies that Vivan made for us especially her famous peanut brittle that we got every Christmas. In the past couple of years I have been mowing for them and Bud hated it at first but then accepted the help and would come out and talk to me and Vivan would tell Bud ” leave her alone so she can finish”. Just this past weekend we took Buds motorhome out to Kalamazoo Speedway for a weekend of camping and I must say we were a little concerned if it would make it because of the shape of the tires but I told my Husband if Bud can drive this all the way to Buckley for the tractor show we can make it to the track and guess what no problems. So wish he knew how much we enjoyed it and put it to use. Will miss you Bud more than you know so very glad you were such a big part of my life. And there were only two people in my life that called me JJ and that was my Dad and Bud. So I will sign off as JJ Adams!!!

Bud, was a great man. He was responsible for me becoming a fire academy instructor, and a member of the counties training council. Even with the rivalries between Plainwell and Otsego, when the call came in no two departments worked better together. His time in the fire service will never matched.
