assed away Thursday December 17, 2009 at Dussia House in Otsego. Ben was born November 21, 1918 in Kalamazoo, the son of Herman and Fannie (Engel) Hummel. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, where he earned the Bronze Star. Ben was co-owner of McNamara Motor Express. On January 11, 1947 in Kalamazoo, he married Mary Alice Guidebeck, who preceded him in death in 2007. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sally (Gene) Hebrock of Kentucky, Sue Cinka of Otsego, Robin (Ken) Clark of Battle Creek; 1 son, Richard Hummel of Battle Creek; his daughter-in-law, Karen Hummel of Plainwell; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and another due soon; sisters, Marian Ray and Joyce Mills both of Otsego and Doris Geiger of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Hummel in 2003, a brother, Charles Hummel; sisters, Elda VanFleet, Helen Houvenor and Anna Mae Towne. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the hospice of your choice. His family would like to thank the staff of the Dussia House for their compassionate care.
