Barbara A. Allen of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2008 in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Allen was born June 24, 1929 in Plainwell to Fred and Alyce (Smith) Johnson and was a lifelong resident of the area. Barbara was a member of the 12

Street Baptist Church, where she started their library, and was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Allegan County. She was an alumna of Hope College and Western Michigan University, having earned degrees in Sociology and Education. Her favorite past times were reading and music. On December 20, 1958 in Plainwell she married
Darrel Allen
, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Timothy (Diane) Allen of Plainwell and Todd (Janet) Allen of Otsego; four grandchildren, Ryan Allen, Leanne Allen LaFountain, Kelli Allen and William Allen; two great grandsons, Dominik Allen and Logan Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great granddaughter, Natalie Allen. The family will receive friends Monday beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the 12
