MI

to Joseph and Anna (Barry) Popp and had been a resident of the Otsego and Plainwell area since 1951. Art was a letter carrier for the Kalamazoo Post Office for 19 years and had also farmed. He received his Bachelor and Master Degrees from

Western

Michigan

University

and taught school in

Kalamazoo

and Plainwell for another 19 years. From 1974 to 1980 he served as a member of the Allegan County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Church in Otsego and a 4

th

Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight from 1994 to 1996. He had been involved with the Capital Campaign for the new church. Art was a great storyteller. He enjoyed telling stories to his family, a gift his children and grandchildren will remember always. On

October 12, 1940

he was married to Ruth Bryer, who died in 1998. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Ruth and Susan; two grandchildren, Daniel Popp and Laura Runchey; a son-in-law Robert Runchey; and his brothers and sisters, Theresa Schaub, Evelyn Brow, Herman Popp, Ruben Popp, Florence Paupore, Albion Popp, William Popp, Emil Popp, Walter Popp, Sister Joseph Ann and Sister Cecelia. On

March 4, 2000

in Otsego Art married Rita (Kelly) Jameson, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and four daughters, Norman (Rose) Popp of Arizona, Anna Halsey of Otsego, Janet (Roy) James and Mary Runchey, both of Plainwell, John (Judy) Popp of Oklahoma and Terri (Robert) Bieszka of Otsego; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sister Eileen of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews; a special caregiver, Cindy; and his nurse, Kathy. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and

Winkel Funeral Home,

Otsego,

where a Rosary and Scripture Service will be held at

7:30 P.M.

Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at

11:00 A.M.

Saturday at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Otsego, Rev. Fr. Donald P. Klingler, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in Art’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Capital Campaign or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
