Arlyn passed away, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his home in Alamo Township, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 29, 1934 in Kalamazoo the son of Harry and Cora (DeBoer) Ekema. Arlyn was a 1952 Otsego High School graduate. He worked doing concrete for Red Sugars and helped build Town & Country. Arlyn went on to own and operate a livestock and grain farm. Over the years he raised many chickens, a few ducks and pigs and many crops. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and attending farm shows until his retirement in the 1990’s.
After retiring he began traveling. Arlyn also enjoyed cutting firewood, staying busy and teaching his grandchildren how to do things. He was a member of the Fly Wheelers and Hope Reformed Church of Kalamazoo. On March 27, 1953 at Twin Lakes Church he married Shirley Warner. They shared 69 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are his children, Linda Pipper of Cooper Township, Bruce Ekema of Alamo, Brian (Julie) Ekema of Alamo and Louise (Jack) Fuller of Portage; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter along with many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.
Friends may visit with Arlyn’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating.
Burial will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery.

Condolences to the Ekema family. I remember Mr. Ekema being a quiet and kind neighbor on West G Avenue.
